Sangeet Ratna Film Screening or “Jewel of Music” (2013. 35 min) A tribute to Shankar on his passing in 2012, directed by Alan Kozlowski, an award-winning visual artist, filmmaker and GRAMMY-nominated music producer. Much of his artistic focus centers around his mentor, teacher and dear friend, Ravi Shankar. Kozlowski met Shankar in 1978, which began 35 years of study and collaboration, and they went on to perform together in venues around the world.
Ravi Shankar's Music Festival from India (1974. 47.23 min.), follows immediately. A concert film directed by Stuart Cooper, filmed at the Royal Albert Hall., London. Shankar gathered an all-star Indian classical music ensemble of sixteen musicians for the project, with himself as lead sitarist and composer. Decades later he would describe the group as " wonderful musicians who are now superstars''. The commentary is by ex-Beatle George Harrison, a long-time champion of Indian music.
The film is preceded by a tour of the exhibition at 3pm and followed by a discussion with the curator Brian Keigher.
