South Asia Institute is proud to launch Zara Chowdhary’s acclaimed debut memoir "THE LUCKY ONES", in a unique book reading accompanied by a musical soundtrack presented with Hindustani vocalist Ezaz Ahmed and sufi-folk producer Ankur Malhotra, as they blend Chowdhary's lyrical prose with the sounds and textures of her family's story and the interwoven lives of the Indian Muslim communities.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The Lucky Ones is a moving memoir by Zara Chowdhary, a survivor of anti-Muslim violence in contemporary India that delicately weaves political and family histories in a tribute to her country’s unique Islamic heritage.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Zara Chowdhary is a writer and lecturer at the University of Wisconsin. She has an MFA in creative writing and environment from Iowa State University and a master's in writing for performance from the University of Leeds.
