Welcome to South Asia Institute!

South Asia Institute (SAI) was established in 2015 with the mission to cultivate the art and culture of South Asian Americans through curated exhibitions, innovative programs and creative educational initiatives. We aim to amplify South Asian American voices and explore their complexities while staying connected to our larger human family.

We are the only independent South Asian American arts and cultural center in Chicago dedicated solely to preserving, promoting, and presenting South Asian arts while embracing the cultural similarities and differences among the broader communities of Chicago and the rest of the American public. At South Asia Institute, we bring together people from diverse backgrounds in a shared aesthetic experience, promoting understanding and tolerance through the arts.

CURRENT EXHIBITIONS

The exhibitions expand engagement and understanding of South Asian culture while focusing on topics that are relevant to society in general. Themes explored balance dissemination of history and dialogue around present day issues to offer a new perspective of the immigrant experience.

Exhibitions are accompanied by programming centered around the theme of the exhibition.

UPCOMING PROGRAMS

Programs are centered around the exhibition themes and include artist and curator talks, seminars, book readings and poetry sessions, music concerts, film screening, plays and story-telling sessions, indoor and outdoor festivals.

SAI also partners with local organizations to present performances of local and internationally renowned artists.
