The South Asia Institute is proudly hosting a children’s writing workshop on September 20, 2025, led by two South Asian children’s book authors from Chicago, Parul Bhandari and Amna Nasima.
Blending cultural storytelling with a hands-on writing workshop, this event is designed to spark creativity, craft characters, paint vivid scenes with words, and share their unique perspectives. The afternoon will include joyful story readings, book signings, and a renewed passion for storytelling!
About Parul Bhandari
Parul Bhandari is the author of multiple children’s books about her experiences as a South Asian woman growing up in America. She has written books about cultural celebrations, travel, and is embarking on a new book sharing food from the region. Her premier book, “Shine a Light on Diwali” was written from her experiences as a parent and lover of culture, and was released in 2024.
About Amna Nasima
As a kid, Amna Nasima loved visiting South Asia and galavanting around in rickshaws - the more colorful the better! Take in the sights and sounds of South Asia with her first book of the series, "Tara the Rickshaw and the Tale of the Lost Kittten", where Tara travels though mango groves and the beaches of the Indian Ocean to reunite Meru the kitten with her family!
